General Session
The Definition of Insanity – Is This Dentistry Today?

What does insanity mean to you?  Let’s take a deep dive into this topic as we explore how dentistry has changed in the last several decades. Do we keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result?  As practitioners and team members, we’ve certainly faced our fair share of challenges (especially of late).  Despite the challenges, we have a bright future ahead of us.  In this opening presentation, we will take a look at where we’ve been and where we’re headed through the eyes of a practitioner. Change is difficult, but as a dentist leading your team to make changes and implement new services to improve patient care is a necessity to find success in today’s dental environment.

Learning Objectives:

  • Observe the past and current trends in dental care
  • Visualize new opportunities for your clinical practice
  • Re-energize your passion for patient care
  • Techniques to unite your team to embrace change
Break outs

Four sessions to choose from!

SESSION 1: OPTIMAL IMPLANT DENTISTRY: WHERE DO YOU FIT IN?

Implants are a mainstay in the dental practice, and still growing at an alarming pace.  The growth can be mainly attributed to the success of these both from a surgical and restorative aspect. As a general practitioner, you should be very comfortable from treatment planning to restoration and knowledgeable of every step in between.  In this course, we will examine the pros and cons of implant dentistry from both a surgical and restorative angle.

Learning Objectives:

  • Why and how to incorporate implants into any practice?
  • The 3 stages of dental implants
  • What is new in implant design and technology?
  • Is a digital or conventional approach best for me?
  • 3D printing, where does that fit in and does it make sense for me?
  • Marketing your implant practice

SESSION 2: The Dental “Healthcare Advocate”;

How Airway, Sleep and the Oral-Systemic Connection Can Improve Care and Grow Practices

In the last 10 years, the topics of sleep and airway have come to the forefront of the dental profession.  With little training at the dental school level, clinicians have been challenged to learn new science and protocols while managing expectations, side effects, and communication with our medical counterparts.  For many dentists, taking on these additional burdens has proven to be overwhelming and at times, disruptive to their practices. This course is designed for dental teams to embrace the current trends in sleep, airway and the oral-Systemic connection as a means to grow their practices, increase medical referrals and improve overall patient care.  By becoming a true “Healthcare Advocate”, a level of trust can be built within an existing patient population and amongst medical colleagues. This introductory curriculum will serve as a roadmap to the successful implementation of airway, sleep, and oral-systemic management for any dental team.

Learning Objectives:

  • The current healthcare crisis of sleep disordered breathing and the need for all dental teams to be evaluating the airway and sleep patterns.
  • The implications of untreated sleep disordered breathing on dental patients of all ages.
  • The role of inflammation and the Dentist’s ability to have a dramatic impact on cardiovascular and overall health
  • Exam/Screening protocols and verbal skills to have patients and other medical professionals see your team as valuable healthcare advocates.
  • How to put the systems in place to add these services profitably, without disruption to the dental practice.

SESSION 3: Want to Up Your Hygiene Game?

During this course you will be educated on TWO of the biggest challenges in a dental practice – Periodontal Disease & Patient Hygiene Scheduling.

Part 1 The Root Cause: Treating Periodontal Disease Effectively

We have all had those patients who arrive at the practice with meticulous home care, no visible plaque, slight calculus localized to the lower anterior, yet bleed profusely when probing and scaling. Perhaps the patient has non-surgical therapy and responds well for the first six months, then regresses before—furthermore, a patient with rapid tooth decay regardless of their excellent homecare. Despite great patient efforts, the process of continued disease can be discouraging to both the provider and the patient. This course is designed to inspire proactive solutions to meet the oral health demands of the patient population to prevent oral health disease effectively.

  • Identify medical conditions that increase the risks of periodontal disease, and the impacts of medications
  • Review the latest research on the oral and systemic health links
  • Discover how to create costume oral health recommendations based on the patient’s risks
  • Identify diagnostics technologies that enhance treatment outcomes, improve patient education, and enhance the clinician’s workflow
  • Discuss the DNA testing, chairside microscope education, and laser implementation to create a unique periodontal program that patients will rave about

Part 2 The Ghosts of Dentistry’s Past: 5 Ways You’re Destroying Your Practice “We’ve always done it this way.” “Let’s not fix it if it’s not broken.”

  • Identify how to streamline your patient schedule to improve overall efficiency
  • Discover powerful communication tools and innovative technology to increase case acceptance
  • Review common billing errors and learn how to prevent them
  • Evaluate the latest innovation in dental hygiene therapy and how they can improve patient outcomes, promote organic referrals, and differentiate your practice

SESSION 4: Can I REALLY do Medical Billing in my Practice?

Maybe you have heard that you can not do Medical Billing as a dental provider?! Or maybe you have heard that medical billing in a dental practice just doesn’t work?! We are happy to show you that both are not true!  In this course, we will share our knowledge and concepts of how to ethically, practically and successfully bill medical insurance in the dental practice. This includes a basic understanding of what medical billing is, how it works, and what types of services performed in a dental office are appropriate to bill to medical insurance. At the conclusion of this course, attendees will have all the information needed to start implementing Medical Billing at their practice.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain a fundamental understanding of medical billing in a dental setting
  • Understand the principals of CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Fill out and submit Health Insurance Form 1500
  • Learn how to create and implement SOAP notes
  • Implement a basic medical billing workflow in your office
  • Learn the benefits of outsourcing vs. in-house medical billing

As of April 1st, 2021,  all tourists that visit the Mexican State of Quintana Roo, home to popular destinations such as Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Riviera Maya, will be required to pay an $11 travel tax.

Foreign travelers will be able to pay the tax electronically when they book their trip, during their stay, or upon exiting the state via the website Visitax. The payment is required for all foreign visitors over 4 years old.

Once the payment is made, each individual traveler is given a QR Code that they must present prior to boarding their return flight at Cancun International Airport.

We highly recommend that all attendees pay this tax prior to their departure back to the U.S. so you have the QR Code ready and available before arriving at Cancun International Airport.

Below is a link to the website to pay the Visit Tax: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/

Prior to departure back to the U.S, attendees must complete a few additional forms prior to arrival at the airport.

First, attendees must fill out and pay the mandatory VisiTax required by the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. This $11 tax per person must be paid prior to arrival at the airport. Once paid, it will generate a QR code as proof of payment which you will show to the airport agents before going through security. Airports participate in random screenings of the VisiTax. To have a smooth departure, make sure to have this paid prior to leaving the resort and have your QR Code ready so you are not bumped to the back of the line to pay the tax onsite at the airport prior to going through security.

Below is a link to the website to pay the Visit Tax: http://www.visitax.gob.mx/

Have your COVID-19 Test results ready and available to show at the airport. You will need this available in order to board your flight back into the U.S.

With all of this required at the airport, you will want to anticipate more delays than usual. Please give yourself at LEAST 3 hours from your flight’s departure time to get through security and the additional screenings even if you are not checking a bag.
